In a world of instant answers, we build the intuition and rigor modern mathematics demands: seeing structure, asking sharper questions, checking ideas, and proving what is true.
From UKMT Challenges to BMO and international olympiads, train with IMO medallists and experienced competition coaches.
In a world of instant answers, The Contemporary Mathematics School builds the intuition and rigor modern mathematics demands: seeing structure, asking sharper questions, checking ideas, and proving what is true.
The School of Contemporary Mathematics explores mathematics that is being used and developed today, through problems accessible to secondary school students. The aim is to build mathematical intuition first, and then strengthen it with technique.
Students work with carefully chosen examples that reveal how modern mathematicians think: noticing what stays the same, spotting when something is impossible, recognising symmetry, understanding how small rules can create large patterns, using computation intelligently, and learning what needs to be proved.
In a world where prompts can increasingly handle routine steps, the ability to ask the right question, notice hidden structure, and prove what is true matters more than ever.
Olympia Fellows is the mathematical olympiad preparation division of The Contemporary Mathematics School. It offers one-to-one tutoring and small-group training with IMO medallists, and experienced olympiad coaches.
Learn from mathematical minds who have competed, won, and taught at the highest global levels.
Maryna won an IMO silver medal alongside EGMO gold and silver medals. She was the first girl in Ukrainian history to win the IMO and RMM Team Selection Tests at the same time. She prepares students for STEP examinations, university interviews, and advanced Olympiad problem-solving. As a tutor, she believes in building core mathematical intuition and helping students appreciate the inner beauty of mathematics.
Sasha is a second-year Pure Mathematics PhD student at Imperial College London, specialising in Algebraic Geometry. An IMO silver medallist and multiple EGMO medallist, she prepares students for STEP, MAT, TMUA, and UKMT/BMO/IMO. Her patient, concept-focused tutoring helps students build confidence, intuition, rigorous reasoning, and genuine enjoyment of mathematics. Outside teaching and research, Sasha enjoys reading, hiking, bouldering, puzzles, and sudoku - activities that reflect the curiosity, creativity, and persistence she encourages in her students.
Kate has represented Ukraine in international competitions, earning silver and bronze at the EGMO, silver at the MEMO, and a reserve spot on the IMO team. She tutors students in Olympiad mathematics with a focus on problem-solving technique, proof structure, clear written solutions, and mathematical resilience.
Maria brings a broad international perspective to mathematics education, having studied and taught at universities in the UK, Russia, and the US. She structures student preparation for STEP examinations, university interviews, and also prepares for UKMT Maths Challenges. Drawing on university-level teaching experience, she tailors sessions to develop the deep problem-solving skills these examinations demand.
We are currently preparing our core online curriculum, class schedule, and enrollment details for the upcoming academic term.
The Contemporary Mathematics School will offer structured online after-school enrichment programs designed to build deep mathematical intuition, pattern-spotting ability, and rigorous problem-solving skills beyond the standard curriculum.
Dr Elena Boguslavskaya is the founder of The Contemporary Mathematics School and a mathematician, researcher, and educator with more than twenty years of university teaching and research experience. She has worked at City University London, the London School of Economics, and Brunel University London, where she is an Honorary Lecturer. As co-founder and trustee of We Solve Problems, Elena helped establish Maths Circles and Maths Battles in the UK; today, more than 700 children take part in the charity’s programmes.
Elena has founded The Contemporary Mathematics School to offer online after-school enrichment. It gives students access to the depth and intellectual atmosphere of a specialist mathematics school from home. By working on inquiry-based problems beyond the standard curriculum, students begin to develop the habits and skills of mathematical research. They learn to formulate questions, test conjectures, construct rigorous arguments, and communicate their ideas clearly.
The School also offers Olympiad training led by medallists and prize-winners from leading international mathematics competitions, including the International Mathematical Olympiad. Occasional in-person events bring students together for collaborative problem-solving, mathematical investigations, and friendly competitions.
